The term “eating” is often used interchangeably with “food”. Food is a general term for any substance that provides energy and nourishment to the body. The food that we eat is categorized into different groups according to its composition, its nutritional value, its source and its method of preparation.

Food can be classified as follows:

  1. Vegetables: They are plant foods which are rich in minerals, vitamins and other essential nutrients.
  2. Fruits: These are natural foods which are rich in vitamins, minerals and water.
  3. Cereals: They are made from grain.
  4. Meat: It is made from animal tissues.
  5. Fish: It is made from animal tissue.
  6. Milk: It is made from milk.
  7. Eggs: It is made from eggs.
  8. Beans: They are made from legumes.
  9. Nuts: They are made from nuts.
  10. Grains: They are made from grains.
  11. Oils: They are liquid fats.
  12. Desserts: They are sweet food items.
  13. Beverages: They are liquid or solid substances that provide energy and nourishment to the human body.
  14. Sweets: They are sweet food items like cakes, chocolates, candies etc.
  15. Snacks: They are food items that provide temporary energy and nourishment to the stomach.
  16. Drinks: They are liquids that provide energy and nourishment.
  17. Alcohol: It is a drink that provides temporary energy and nourishment to human body.
  18. Soups: They are food items that are served hot.
  19. Beverages: They are drinks that are served cold.
  20. Other: These are food items which are not mentioned in any of the above categories.

Food has been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians. They were the first people who invented cooking techniques.

Food is eaten by humans in two ways:

  1. By chewing and swallowing.
  2. By eating with our hands.

The main purpose of food is to provide energy and nourishment to our body. Food is also eaten to satisfy hunger. The food is usually taken after the person feels hungry. Eating too much food causes obesity.

Eating is an important part of our lives. It is a basic necessity for survival. Food is a major part of our lives. It helps us in all our activities. Food is also an important source of energy. It is also an important part of our daily life.
